Ice fishing derby raises nearly $400 for riding program

BRATTLEBORO — The Southern Vermont Therapeutic Riding Center (SVTRC) held its inaugural Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Retreat Meadows. The derby attracted 43 anglers and raised almost $400 for SVTRC's therapeutic riding program.

Grand Prizes were given out for each of the four categories:

- Adult Longest Panfish — Matt Lafland won $50 cash donated by Tito's Taqueria.

- Adult Longest 'Other' Fish — Jeremy Erho won an Ice Fishing Prize Pack (over $100 value) donated by Runnings.

- Junior Longest Panfish — Brennen Haskell won a $50 gift card donated by Walmart.

- Junior Longest 'Other' Fish — Brennen Haskell also won an Ice Fishing Prize Pack (over $100 value) donated by Runnings.

The following sponsors donated door raffle items: Sonny's Cup n' Saucer, WW Building Supply, Brown and Roberts, Tractor Supply Co., Sam's Outdoor Outfitters, Hannaford Supermarket, and Earle's Bait Shop. Tito's Taqueria was on site with a food truck selling tacos and burritos.

SVTRC provides Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies to children and adults with various physical, emotional, and cognitive needs who live in Windham County and the surrounding area. Currently, 96 percent of participants receive a subsidized lesson rate, thanks to fundraisers and grants.
