Jamaica, Vt., man dies in custody in Massachusetts
GREENFIELD, Mass. — Massachusetts authorities are investigating the death of a 35-year-old Jamaica, Vt., man who died while being detained in the Franklin County Jail and House of Correction on the afternoon of Oct. 12.
The man, who is not being identified at this time, was arrested earlier that day by troopers with the Massachusetts State Police on narcotics-related offenses, according to information from the Northwestern District Attorney's Office in Northampton, Mass.
During a cell check, the man was found to be
unresponsive. He was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, where he was pronounced dead.
The Massachusetts State Police Detectives Unit attached to the Northwestern District Attorney's Office, together with the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, are collaboratively investigating the man's death and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.
