Jazz Soiree hosting Bob Stabach 4tet

GUILFORD — On Monday, August 26, Wendy Redlinger's Jazz Soiree will host the Bob Stabach 4tet with Eugene Uman, piano, artistic director of the Vermont Jazz Center; George Kaye, bass, with a rich history playing with NYC jazz luminaries; Jon Fisher, first call drummer in the Pioneer Valley; Bob Stabach veteran saxophonist, leader and composer.

The concert will present a mix of European jazz (Yin) and American jazz (yang). The European style, centered around the ECM recording label, is characterized by an inner directed, subdued, specious and contemplative aesthetic. The American Jazz style, broadly speaking, revels in outwardly directed emotional expressions, impressive melodic line, and a driving swing feel leading to awesome climaxes. Being more tonal oriented, the European style is less inclined to dissonance (blues notes). and favors less dense harmonies and uses triads for color on occasion. The straight eight rhythmic feel is prominent and climaxes are developed with patience and restraint.

The concert starts at 7 p.m. with a suggested donation of $15 to $20. For more information call Wendy at 802-254-6189.
