Keene, N.H., woman arrested after car strikes tree
Aerial E. Barney, 22, of Keene, was wanted in Cheshire County for failing to appear for a court hearing in June on a felony drug charge, according to court documents.
During her arraignment in Vermont Superior Court Bennington Criminal Division on Wednesday, Judge David A. Howard ordered Barney, who waived her right to an extradition hearing, be held without bail pending her transfer to New Hampshire.
Barney was driving in the 500 block of Gore Road just before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday when her 2001 Hyundai Accent went off the road and struck a tree, according to an affidavit by Bennington police officer Keith R. Diotte. A warrant check showed Barney had an extraditable arrest warrant for failing to appear at a hearing in Cheshire Superior Court on June 20.
Barney was taken to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington and treated for injuries she sustained in the crash. Police arrested her later at a Beech Street residence. She's held at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility, Rutland.
