Kurn Hattin places 2nd in Pentathlon

LANGDON, N.H. — Kurn Hattin placed second in the eighth grade Pentathlon on Tuesday at Fall Mountain. Hartford won with 58 points, followed by Kurn Hattin (39), Green Mountain (22), Fall Mountain (15), Weathersfield (10), Lempster (7), and Indian River (4).

Jacob Baltazar led the Westminster school by placing fourth overall with 19 points. Kurn Hattin's Nick Passos and Jakobie Graves-Amidon tied for fifth with 10 points each, while teammate Chan Dowang ended up in a tie for the 15th position.

Baltazar won the 800, breaking his own previous school record in the event by over four seconds, finishing in 2 minutes 24 seconds. He also finished second in the 100 by setting a new personal record of 12.87 seconds. Additionally, he secured a sixth place finish in the discus (78-5) in his first time competing in the event and cleared four feet in the high jump.

Graves-Amidon won the discus with a breakthrough performance, improving on his own school record by an astonishing 22 feet with a throw of 104 feet. He was almost 20 feet ahead of the runner-up.

Passos had a very well-rounded performance which included a third place finish in the long jump (14-2), fourth in the 100, where he set his new personal record of 13.24 seconds, and he tied Baltazar in the high jump by clearing four feet.

Dowang also had a good day, as he set a personal record in the discus for the third straight meet by throwing 74 feet and 5 inches, which put him in eighth place for that event.
