Latchis offering live simulcasts
BRATTLEBORO — It's a weekend of the beautiful and the beastly as Latchis Arts presents a pair of simulcast programs at the Latchis Theatre, 50 Main St.
At 4 p.m. Saturday, the Latchis screens the National Theatre Live in HD simulcast of Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of King Richard II." In this bold and critically acclaimed re-telling of this Shakespearean history play, the Almeida Theatre has stripped back the script to just over 90 minutes, with no intermission. The result is a raw, visceral production which focuses on the essence of the story - a power struggle between two failing leaders, ruling a divided country. Simon Russell Beale stars in the title role.
At 4 p.m., Sunday, the Latchis presents the Bolshoi Ballet: Only in Cinemas simulcast of "The Sleeping Beauty." Chroeographer Yuri Grigorovich and director Vincent Bataillon bring to life one of the great fairy tales, with music by Tchaikovsky, starring Bolshoi Ballet principles and the Corps de Ballet. Running time is approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes.
General admission for either program is $20, $10 for students, at the door. Contact Jon Potter at firstname.lastname@example.org and 802-254-1109, ext. 3 for questions or advance credit card purchases. For more information, visit latchisarts.org.
