Leland & Gray softball team debuts Wednesday

Posted

TOWNSHEND — This should be a good year for the Leland & Gray varsity softball team, which previously reached the Division 3 championship game in 2013, 2015 and 2017.

Shortstop Sarah Andersen and catcher Erin Cutts are the lone seniors on the roster.

"They bring tremendous softball experience, skill and knowledge to the team. These two have dedicated themselves in the offseason, working to improve their skills," stated Rebels coach Tammy Claussen. "I will be looking to them for leadership on and off the field. Erin is our power hitter, who I suspect will ding a few over the fences again this year."

Abby Lowe will do the pitching for the Rebels, who went 11-6 last season.

"We have some nice young talent coming up in freshmen Emma Brooks, Hannah Landers and Ansley Henderson, and eighth graders Izzy Ameden and Tela Dykes," noted Claussen. "Rounding out the roster are steady hitter Sydney Hescock, Caroline Mehner, Alison Stockwell, Michaela Stillwagon, Nikki Sanderson and Teagan Powling."

Leland & Gray is scheduled to open up at Springfield on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
