Letter: Be honest about single-payer costs

Editor of the Reformer:

This letter is in response to a letter written by Cindy Jerome about single payer healthcare (Thursday, Aug. 9), while I agree that we all should have health insurance, we need to be more honest about costs associated with it. While it is true that employers will have higher earnings, do you really believe they will have lower costs because they will have to pay higher salaries so the employees can pay higher taxes to make up the cost of the new healthcare. Does anybody really believe that this won't turn into another government bureaucracy with bloated staff. And if you research the true cost of socialism the tax burden can be as high as Denmark, where the full implications of taxes are about 55-60 percent of earnings. Plus many other local taxes.
