Letter: Beware of unintended consequences

Editor of the Reformer:

Isn't it possible that the tactic some states are considering, to allow residents to make a "charitable contribution" to the state in lieu of state tax, could hurt legitimate charities in the long run? The current mentality among our Congressional members would think about limiting all charitable contributions as a response. How do legitimate charities feel about this?
