Letter: Construction mess left behind

Editor of the Reformer,

I and other residents of Powderhorn Village in Wilmington are concerned with the abandoned material left behind at the Powderhorn 2 Cameo Construction Co. site. Building 10 was about to be constructed on a lot below the original Powderhorn buildings. Since the Hermitage Club began having financial difficulties, the Cameo Construction Co. also did begin having financial problems, because no one wanted a 800k unit if the Hermitage Club is inoperable and appears to be having ongoing issues.

Cameo has abandoned piles of now rotting lumber, sewer pipes, and many blue tarps covering what may be described as deteriorating and possibly toxic construction debris. This has existed for one year and a half. Beyond the needless clear-cutting of many beautiful old growth trees and destruction of animal habitats, it is now a scar on the beautiful Vermont landscape.

Is it too much to expect Cameo to clean up the abandoned debris and construction junk that is still there.

Please drive up Coldbrook or Handle roads, then into the Hermitage Club entrance and then up Gatehouse trail and see the collateral damage from this ill-fated construction on the right side of Gatehouse Trail.

Charles O. Darcy
