Letter: Cow's milk is meant for baby cows, not humans

Editor of the Reformer,

I attended the Strolling of the Heifers Parade on Saturday. There I saw calves being pulled, drooling, painted on and watched one collapse. Then today I read that one calf died on the way to the parade. Cow's milk is basically the "breast milk" of cows, meant for baby cows to grow into big cows. Look in the mirror, if you are not a baby cow why are you drinking cow's milk?

Someone wrote a letter about how nutritious cow's milk is; yeah, for baby cows it is! I lack for nothing especially not protein, and I do not consume the body fluids of cows. In fact, why would it be considered healthy ever to drink pure hormonal fluid from another mammal that is not human? Especially as an adult!

I do support local farms in Vermont and New Hampshire, but dairy has got to end. In fact, it is ending if you look at the sales of plant based products including nut cheeses and yogurts. Let's all work together to transition farmers to actual crops that people need without the animal cruelty. It really is time to read the writing on the wall and move forward.
