Letter: Express your support for VY sale on Thursday

To the Editor:

This Thursday, April 12, the Vermont Public Utility Commission (PUC) will hold its final public meeting in Brattleboro on NorthStar's proposed plan to purchase and decommission Vermont Yankee decades ahead of its original schedule. The plan is highly regarded as a great step forward for the Windham County region and Vermont as a whole.

NorthStar's proposal made headlines across the state last month following the approval of a Memorandum of Understanding by all but one intervenor in the process, including the State of Vermont. As a result, this may lead Vermonters to think the process to be a done deal, but it's not. As they say, it ain't over till it's over.

Ultimately, the PUC must approve the sale of Vermont Yankee to NorthStar. They won't make this decision until they hear directly from the local community. Therefore, the public meeting on Thursday may be the deciding factor that will affect the Windham economy for the next generation.

Your support for this sale is critical. Let the PUC members hear your voice on Thursday. Please consider attending and expressing your support for NorthStar's plan on April 12 at Brattleboro Union High School in the multipurpose room from 7 to 9 p.m. An informational session will be held prior to the hearing at 6 p.m.

Brad Ferland, President

Vermont Energy Partnership, April 6
