Letter: Fond memories of Portuguese soup

Regarding the Food section article "This hearty, easy-to-make soup is a staple in kitchens of Portuguese communities," April 10: Love, love this soup. I married into a Portuguese family. My mother-in-law's family came from Madeira and settled in New Bedford, Mass. I have been eating this for over 50-plus years and we still order our sausage from Gaspar's in Massachusetts. Our recipe has changed a bit over the years, but we still fondly remember my mother-in-law making it for us all ... don't forget the sweet bread rolls!
