Letter: Hagen for high bailiff
Editor of the Reformer,
I am happy to write this letter to support the election of John Hagen for the position of Windham County high bailiff. Time and time again, I have watched John utilize the structural power allotted in the high bailiff position to advocate for people of color, though he rarely, if ever, publicized his advocacy. John is also an active member of the Windham County Branch of the NAACP, who regularly shows up to community meetings to take notes and ask thoughtful questions towards better advocacy. He has recently pushed for an increase of diversity and inclusion training and the installment of local leaders of color as advisors to our sheriff. John also makes sure to regularly meet with our sheriff, ensuring that our perspectives contribute to the conversation around policing within the county. I believe that John has, skillfully, taken a timeliness role that has been historically looked at as inactive and used it to make real change, showing us that every part of the structure does count and can be used to build a more welcoming community. John has my vote.
