Letter Just plain bizarre

Editor of the Reformer:

What a bizarre statement from the Energy Secretary Rick Perry, that fossil fuels can prevent sexual assault.

If electricity is needed for increased security lighting, especially in Africa, renewable solar electric power has proved perfectly adequate to provide electricity for lighting without the need for any fossil fuels. Does Mr. Perry need instruction on the fastest growing industry in the U.S. and the world, or is he on the payroll of the fossil fuel industry? It's easy to provide on-site distributed street lighting with a small photovoltaic solar electric system on each pole as in the parking lot behind the Shell station on Canal Street.
