Letter: Support BAAH to help those with housing needs
Editor of the Reformer,
Hello Brattleboro Area Affordable Housing supporters,
With your support we helped dozens of individuals and families cope with major housing-related dilemmas in their lives. We helped a woman warm her mobile home with new, insulated windows. We helped a single mother with her rent for several months when she had to stop working her two part-time jobs while recovering from a necessary surgery. These people were not eligible for assistance from State or Federal programs, but thanks to you, BAAH was there.
With your help we'll be able to support more low-income folks to meet and overcome potentially catastrophic housing crises in 2019.
For more than 20 years, BAAH has empowered people with knowledge and financial resources so they can move towards self-sufficiency. Our innovative housing programs help keep people in their homes and assist them by advocating for affordable solutions and help folks make improvements to their housing circumstances. We provide a boost for a selected BUHS student in financing higher education needs through the Byron Stookey Scholarship, and support our mobile home improvement grant and loan program.
Your donation also supports Apartments in Homes, an innovative and cost-effective program which addresses the shortage of safe, affordable rental housing. We help homeowners create affordable apartments in their homes, earn income and increase the housing stock. This program has gained statewide attention and efforts are underway to replicate Apartments in Homes to increase the availability of housing across Vermont.
We have established a fund pool to assist partner organizations help their clients meet housing challenges. Case managers from Groundworks Collaborative, Southeastern Vermont Community Action, Winston Prouty Center, Youth Services, and Health Care and Rehabilitation Services can use BAAH resources with needs that cannot be met through State or Federal programs.
As you can see, there's a lot that we do at BAAH and we do it with only volunteers and your support. Your gifts go towards direct assistance to those in need with the exception of some small administrative costs. Please help us continue to give people in our community life-saving help they otherwise wouldn't have.
You can make a real difference by making a donation to BAAH today.
