Letter: Your voice is needed

Today is the day chosen by those in the state regulatory body — the Public Utilities Commission — to hear feedback from we who live near the Entergy Vermont Yankee nuclear reactor. This is the second meeting on the issue locally.

Do you want your voice taken into account when it comes to whether or not to sell Vermont's only high level radioactive waste site to a company — NorthStar — that has never demolished a commercial nuclear reactor? Tonight is the night in the Brattleboro Union High School multi- purpose room. This proposed sale is the first of its kind. No other closed reactor has ever been sold to a different limited liability company to decontaminate and decommission.

Maine Yankee, Yankee Rowe and Connecticut Yankee were held to higher environmental standards than NorthStar intends. NorthStar Group Services did not even exist back

when Entergy tried to sell a working atomic reactor. Partners include AREVA, recently found to have produced weakened reactor vessels for pressurized reactors throughout Europe and one in New Jersey.
