Local Toastmasters improve their public speaking

BRATTLEBORO — BrattleMasters, the local Toastmasters club, will begin its online meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 29.

BrattleMasters members Karen Davis of Brattleboro and Lisa Sieverts of Nelson, N.H. will be giving speeches. Later in the meeting, their assigned evaluators will provide feedback on what worked best in these speeches, and advising them what areas to work on.

Peru resident Fran Tobia will emcee this meeting which also will include reports from an "ah" counter, a grammarian, a timer, a general evaluator and an off-the-cuff speaking exercise as well as a short break during the 90-minute meeting.

Toastmasters members utilize the Pathways Learning Experience, designed by the non-profit organization to help people learn communication and leadership skills for greater success in their lives. New members choose one of 11 paths, each one having about 14 projects. Sieverts has chosen the Leadership Development path; Davis is working in the Visionary Communication path.

Toastmasters is a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. The local Toastmasters club meets twice monthly on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month.
