Lonardo, Parker-Jennings deliver on track, field


BRATTLEBORO — Brattleboro Union High School student Maggie Lonardo won the 100 in 12.62 seconds at the Division 1 state track and field meet in Burlington on Saturday. She also finished third in the 200, fifth in the long jump, and teamed up with Dory Abdallah, Alina Secrest and Isabella Lonardo for fourth in the 4x100 relay race.

Olivia Ortlieb took second in the high jump, and Sarah Gallagher wound up fourth in the 800 to help the BUHS girls finish seventh in the team scoring. Saint Johnsbury, Champlain Valley Union, and Essex all reached the podium.

The Brattleboro boys placed 10th. Essex was crowned after beating runner-up Saint Johnsbury by 19 points.

Orion Stone earned bronze in the pole vault to lead the Colonels. Mike Anderson finished fifth in the shot put, while Ben Brady added a sixth in the 400.

At the Division 4 state championship meet in Windsor, Leland & Gray took second in the boys team scoring and 10th in the girls team scoring.

Lucian Parker-Jennings prevailed in the 100 in 12.09 seconds, the pole vault by clearing 7-06, and the triple jump with a leap of 37-03 to lead the Rebels.

Leland & Gray's Jayden Bloom chipped in with a silver in the javelin. Batikan Cinar took second in the 400 and third in the 200. The Townshend team also won the 4x100 relay (Cam Anderberg, Justin Crosby, Jairen Sanderson, Riley Barton).

Bay Holmes led the Lady Rebels by placing fifth in the 3,000 and sixth in the discus. Kate Petty added a sixth in the 300 hurdles.
