Mahoney hitting .333 for Anchormen

BRATTLEBORO — Jamie Mahoney is 5-for-15, has crossed the plate three times and has a pair of RBI during her first year with the Rhode Island College women's softball team.

The freshman catcher had her best offensive game during a 12-4 victory over Mitchell on April 3. She went 2-for-4 at the dish, stole a base, scored once and also drove in a run. She has hit safely against Mass. Maritime, MCLA and Randolph-Macon.

Mahoney batted .460 and swiped 16 bases during her senior season with the Brattleboro Union High School varsity softball team. The Colonels went 46-23 when she was behind the plate, including three playoff victories.

The southpaw was also a tri-captain of the BUHS varsity girls ice hockey team in 2017, along with Olivia Stent and Axis Balsley-Petraska. On the high school pitch, she played with current college athletes Megyn Ayotte (lacrosse), Devin Millerick (softball) and Gabrielle Carpenter (volleyball).

The Rhode Island College softball team (12-8) will host a doubleheader with Worcester State on Thursday, with those games scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
