Marina donates athlete of the season prizes
BRATTLEBORO — Most high school athletes in this area are required to wear a mask during the fall sports season, but one of them will need to remove the cloth facial covering at some point in order to enjoy their prize. The Vermont Cheddar burger, chicken wings, fried clam bellies, Nachos, and a chocolate brownie sundae are among the options for each Brattleboro Reformer Athlete of the Season winner, thanks to the three $25 gift certificates donated by The Marina.
Jaia Caron earned the award last autumn. The Bellows Falls field hockey team's goalie helped the Terriers to nine victories, including a pair of upsets in the Division 1 Tournament.
The winter award went to Brattleboro ice hockey player Jack Pattison, who scored 20 goals and dished out 22 assists to power the purple and white.
The 2020 spring sports season was then cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns, which may have robbed BUHS lacrosse player Tobin Lonergan or Hinsdale track star Maggie St. John of a little waterfront dining.
Area athletes who go to Brattleboro Union High School, Bellows Falls, Leland & Gray, Twin Valley, Hinsdale, St. Michael School, or a prep school are all eligible. Each weekly winner is automatically in the running for a Marina prize.
Some of the serious contenders for the fall honor are Bellows Falls sticker Maya Waryas, two-time cross country state champion Abby Broadley (Bellows Falls), soccer players Colin McHale (Twin Valley) and Riley Barton (Leland & Gray), and Brattleboro quarterback Henry Thurber.
