Martinez catches TD pass in Castleton win
BRATTLEBORO — Tony Martinez caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Jacob McCarthy during the Castleton University football team's 33-19 victory over Anna Maria on Saturday.
The former Brattleboro Union High School quarterback finished the game with seven receptions for 90 yards. He also returned one kickoff for 13 yards as the Spartans improved to 1-7 overall.
Martinez, who is a junior wide receiver, now has 68 catches for 962 yards and four scores in his college career.
The Spartans will play at Dean on Saturday at noon.
The former Bellows Falls field hockey captain erupted for seven goals and five assists in her first year with the Clark University team. The Cougars ended up with an 8-10 mark.
The Vernon resident finished her junior season with 34 kills, 34 digs and 13 blocks for the Castleton women's volleyball team. The Spartans finished up with a 7-18 record.
The Newfane resident won the Bowdoin Invitational cross-country race on Oct. 26 in a time of 23:13.4, which was one-tenth of a second faster than Bowdoin teammate Caroline Shipley.
The Leland & Gray grad scored three goals during her junior season with the Keene State women's soccer team (10-9).
The junior linebacker has made nine tackles this season for the 6-3 Plymouth State football team, which will play at WestConn on Nov. 16 at noon.
The Bellows Falls graduate scored three goals and dished out one assist in her freshman season with the Rivier University field hockey team, which ended up with a 6-10 mark.
