May 31 Masquerade Ball benefits ‘Dates for Coffee’ film

BRATTLEBORO -- Get dressed up and spend a night out on Saturday, May 31, for The World Masquerade Ball, a benefit for the film Dates for Coffee.

The event runs from 7 to 11 p.m., and takes place at The Stone Church, 210 Main St. It promises to be a magical evening of enchanting live entertainment, refreshments, dancing, lively conversation and an auction of masks created by local artists. Formal attire and a mask are required for admittance. An unmasking will end the evening’s festivities.

"Dates for Coffee" was produced and created by a team of local Vermont residents and Vermont natives led by Kiera Lewis, a Brattleboro filmmaker and United Nations Civil Society Coordinator. "Dates for Coffee" is her first documentary, and she shot it while living and studying in Oman.

"Dates for Coffee" is currently still in production as the production team continues to meet with people from around the Arab world and United States to collect their stories, narratives and idioms that shape their worldview.

The World Masquerade Ball fundraiser is being held to raise funds for the completion of "Dates for Coffee." The team is also seeking to raise funds through other sources to bring the documentary to completion by January 2015.

Suggested donation is $18 in advance, $22 at the door. Reserve tickets at

The project is currently seeking volunteers and sponsors. If you are interested or for more information about the event, contact Shanta L.E. at 802-275-8152 or email shantavns
