May, Gifford are Firecracker 4-Miler champions

BRATTLEBORO — Guilford's Jack May won the virtual Bill Powers Memorial Firecracker 4-Miler road race in a time of 27:35. Putney's Charlotte Gifford placed fifth overall in 33:04 to take the female division title.

This year, participants were able to tackle any four-mile course between June 29 and July 5. The race is generally run just before the July 4 parade in Brattleboro, starting at Living Memorial Park and finishing at the Common.

Recent winners were: Colby Nixon and Delaney Bullock in 2019, Colin Costa-Walsh and Kelly Horowitz in 2018, Brian Berling and Cortney Berling in 2017, Rob Lind and Jessica Marlier in 2016, and Jason Dunklee and Dana McClelland in 2015.
