SOMERSET — A mother and son from Bennington who had been reported missing Saturday were found safe early Sunday evening, according to the Vermont State Police.
Two hikers in the area of the Somerset Reservoir encountered Allison Passage and James Lake in the woods. The hikers called police and remained with Passage and Lake, who appeared to be unharmed. The hikers waited with the two until search and rescue crews were able to reach them.
At about 10:15 p.m., Passage and Lake were escorted successfully from the area, ultimately emerging from the woods near Vermont Route 9, and were being evaluated by Deerfield Valley Rescue.
The U.S. Forest Service and Vermont National Guard also aided in the search and rescue effort.
Passage, 29, and Lake, 11, were reported missing Saturday night after last being seen at the reservoir earlier in the day.
