Post 5 finishes with 29-11 mark

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro American Legion baseball team went 1-2 in the Northeast Regionals in Shrewsbury, Mass. last week to finish the season with a 29-11 record.

Post 5 began the double-elimination tournament with a 4-3 victory over Southington, Conn. Adam Newton (7 K's, 3 BB, 4 hits) picked up the win and Tyler Millerick earned the save. Jack Pattison and Christian Thomsen led the attack with two hits each, while Jeremy Rounds, Chris Frost, Dan Petrie and Newton added one hit apiece. Frost drove in two runs and Jack Price chipped in with one RBI.

Newton would then pound out two hits when Brattleboro fell to host Shrewsbury, Mass. 9-0. Frost and Pattison each hit safely.

In their third game of the tourney, Post 5 was defeated by Stamford, Conn. 9-0. Rounds, Petrie, Newton and Thomsen all finished with one hit.

Manager Eric Libardoni's club went 23-8 during the regular season and earned the No. 3 seed in the South Division for the Vermont State Tournament. Post 5 went 5-1 in that tourney, eventually beating SD Ireland twice to earn their seventh crown ever.

Rounds was named the MVP in Colchester. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Petrie (C), Hunter Beebe (1B), Millerick (2B), Pattison (3B), Frost (OF) and Thomsen (P).
