Post 5 wins state championship
COLCHESTER — Jeremy Rounds and Tyler Millerick each had a couple of hits to help the Brattleboro American Legion baseball team to a 5-2 win over SD Ireland in the state championship game on Wednesday at Colchester High School.
Rounds (4 K's) went 6 1/3 innings for the win. Millerick picked up the save.
Many of the Brattleboro fans who couldn't make it to the game were either following Gina Ballantine Pattison's frequent updates on Facebook or Alex Libardoni's play-by-play on Game Changer.
In the first game of the day, Post 5 topped previously undefeated SD Ireland 9-6 in the double-elimination format. Adam Newton fanned six batters in 3 2/3 innings of work, while Chris Frost, Dan Petrie and Newton all had a pair of hits for the champs. Petrie's three-run homer was the biggest blow.
This was the seventh state championship ever for Brattleboro. Rounds was named the Outstanding Player, while Christian Thomsen (pitcher), Petrie (catcher), Hunter Beebe (first base), Millerick (second base), Jack Pattison (third base) and Frost (outfield) also made the All Tournament Team.
Post 5 went 5-1 in the state tourney. After beating defending champion Essex 7-0 and then Lakes Region 7-2 over the weekend, Brattleboro fell to SD Ireland 6-1 on Monday. Manager Eric Libardoni's team bounced right back, however, zipping Rutland 10-0 on Tuesday and then sweeping SD Ireland on Wednesday.

Players — Tyler Millerick, Adam Newton, Alex Bingham, Jeremy Rounds, Alex Kendall, Evan Finnell, Forrester Avard, Jack Pattison, Aaron Petrie, Hunter Beebe, Chris Frost, Jack Price, Dan Petrie, Joe Rafus, Christian Thomsen.
