WESTMINSTER — "Gronk" might be retired, but his doppelganger showed up at Hadley Field on Saturday afternoon.

Carter Pelzel, who is a big and athletic tight end just like the former Patriots star, caught seven passes for 126 yards and two scores to help the Union-32 varsity football team to a 42-29 victory over Bellows Falls.

The winners moved into sole possession of second place in the Division 2 standings.

Trailing 28-9 early in the third quarter, the hosts fought back to within six points with 5:05 remaining in the contest. The fans were clearly into it, with one side chanting "Let's go Raiders" and the home crowd responding with "Let's go Terriers."

The visitors would then put it away with an eight-play scoring drive that chewed up three minutes. Quarterback Nathan LaRosa (188 passing yards, 141 rushing yards) did the majority of the damage, keeping the ball on read options for gains of 12 and 25 yards before reaching paydirt from two yards out.

BF's Hunter Smith had a tackle for loss and Jeb Monier broke up a pass as the teams played to a 7-7 draw over the first 12 minutes. LaRosa connected with Pelzel for a 14-yard TD strike and Monier later answered with an 18-yard run to the house in the first quarter.

An errant punt snap by the Raiders resulted in a safety, otherwise it was all U-32 in the second quarter. LaRosa scored on a 17-yard keeper and Crosse Gariboldi added a seven-yard TD run before the visitors took a 21-9 lead to the intermission.

LaRosa would hook up with Pelzel for a 12-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter and Zai Gluck drilled the extra point to make it 28-9.

And then the offensive line of Nick Streeter, Dominic Kendall, Patrick Barbour, Grady Lockerby and Smith began opening up holes as the Purple Gang got back in it. Jed Lober punched the ball in from two yards out, Griffin Waryas found McGregor Vancor for an 18-yard TD pass, and Monier scored from three yards out to get the Terriers within 35-29 with 5:05 left.

The Terriers (3-2) will play at rival Springfield (4-1) on Friday night at 7.
