BRATTLEBORO — The Leland & Gray varsity girls soccer team will be trying to keep its streak going, having posted a record above .500 for the past three seasons.

The Rebels went 9-5 in 2018 and earned the No. 8 seed in the Division 3 playoffs, before being upset by ninth-ranked Stowe 3-2 in overtime in a first-round match. Ansley Henderson and Arin Bates did the scoring for the Townshend team in that contest.

Leland & Gray goalie Sydney Hescock stopped shot after shot in the OT period, but Stowe's Selah Barrett would eventually bury the game winner.

"I really enjoyed coaching this team, they played any way I asked them to, and played any position I asked them to. Our seniors were a great group of leaders, our juniors had such important roles on the team, and our freshmen and sophomores gave us everything they had all year. Overall, it was a great season and I'm sorry we had to see it end tonight," said Rebels coach Lucas Bates after the heartbreaking loss.

Leland & Gray will host Twin Valley in a Sept. 3 season opener at 4:30 p.m.
