Rebel girls deny Rivendell

TOWNSHEND — Ellie Longo scored a couple of goals to propel the Leland & Gray varsity girls soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Rivendell on Friday.

A free kick from midfield by Bay Holmes started the first successful attack for the hosts. Arin Bates then flicked the ball over aggressive keeper Lauren Hair's head before Longo ran it into the goal.

Longo later put home the insurance tally after Abby Towle's shot was deflected.

"We really started to pass through midfield to wrap up the game at that point. Arin Bates, Abby Towle and Hannah Landers were playing give, go, get," said winning coach Lucas Bates.

Sydney Hescock made two saves for the shutout. Hair finished with 22 stops.

The 8-2 Rebels will face Green Mountain (3-7-0) on Monday.
