Rebels are talented, hungry

BRATTLEBORO — The Leland & Gray varsity baseball team is attempting to reach the Division 3 Final Four for the sixth time in eight years.

"We have a good crew. We bring back a decent-sized group with experience," said second-year coach Marty Testo. "We have some depth on the mound."

The rotation for the Rebels consists of Christian Thomsen, Dylan Greenwood, Kristian Pierson, Ethan Cutts and Jeremy Graves.

"Thomsen has the ability to be as good as anyone in the south. Thomsen and Greenwood have good command and they will keep the ball around the plate so that we can make the plays defensively," added Testo.

The Leland & Gray hurlers will be working with veteran catcher Ayden Bills.

"He keeps the ball in front of him and he runs the show. He's everything you want in a catcher," noted the skipper.

The Rebels went 12-7 last season, including a loss to Windsor in a semifinal. They also reached the Final 4 in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016 following their three-peat from 2008-2010.

Testo is counting on Kaie Quigley, Thomsen, Chris Bovat, Pierson and Graves to provide the punch in the lineup.

"Thomsen is a First Team MVL returnee," the coach mentioned. "Graves is a good-size freshman who understands the game. This kid is passionate about baseball. He is coachable."

Leland & Gray will debut at Bellows Falls on April 17 at 4:30 p.m.

"This group really enjoys baseball. They are hungry," stated Testo. "We're gonna be a tough out throughout the lineup. We are gonna make the other teams make plays."

Players — Trevor Plimpton, Chris Bovat, Jeremiah Bloom, Christian Thomsen, Riley McCormack, Curtis Thorpe, Ethan Cutts, Quinn Kelloway, Kaie Quigley, Ivan Mercier, Trent Pagach, Dylan Greenwood, Kristian Pierson, Ayden Bills, Jeremy Graves.
