Reds ride Jett to victory

BRATTLEBORO — Reds pitcher Jett Emery struck out eight batters in his first start of the season to help the Reds to a 9-1 victory over the Royals in Little League baseball action on Wednesday night.

Emery allowed just one run on two hits to pick up the win. Nolan Chisholm pitched well in relief and picked up seven strikeouts in 2 2/3 hitless innings.

Jackson Emery hit a long triple for the winners in the third inning and went around to score on the play. Willem Thurber had a base hit and two runs scored. Will Fontaine hit a double and Lucas Stolpp got a base hit as well.

Nick Fortier made his debut at catcher for the Reds and proved very competent behind the plate. He also scored two runs.

The Royals showed improvement, but were held to two hits on the evening. Ozzie VanHendrick knocked in the Royals' lone run with an RBI single in the third inning. Ryder Leary had the other Royals hit — a single in the second inning. On the mound, VenHendrick threw well and allowed just three runs across three innings of work.
