The Brattleboro Union High School music department will present an evening of instrumental chamber music and student compositions at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Brattleboro Music Center auditorium, 75 Blanche Moyse Way. Admission is free.

Fifteen chamber ensembles will be featured in the program, including groups such as saxophone quartets, clarinet and flute ensembles, percussion ensembles, brass ensembles, a string quartet and a mixed wind trio. Featured on the program will be five compositions by students in Honors Band, including Jordan Roach, Caitlin Sullivan, Gabe Bradshaw, Cullen O'Hern, and Sebastian Paquette.

The concert culminates a unit in which the 50-member band is divided into smaller ensembles that often rehearse independently. They receive coaching from area musicians, some of whom are BUHS Band alumni, outstanding chamber musicians and/or music teachers. Coaches have included Rob Freeberg, Moby Pearson, Judith Serkin, John Wheeler, Ari Essunfeld (BUHS '19), Kyra Johnston (BUHS '16), and Ian Epstein (BUHS '16). Student mentors from within the band have included Sarah Gordon-Macey, Sam Freitas-Eagan, and Bram Tabachnick.
