Sargent anchored Mount Ida lax team's defense

BRATTLEBORO — Mount Ida College lacrosse player Meghan Sargent, of Brattleboro, was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference's First Team.

The sophomore defender led the Mustang defensive corps with 51 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers while chipping in with nine goals and 10 total points on the offensive side this season, including a pair of free position tallies in the GNAC quarterfinal round victory over Norwich.

The Mustangs finished the spring at 12-5 overall under sixth-year head coach Nicole Poli, as they posted a school-record nine-match winning streak and advanced to the GNAC semifinals for the second straight season.

The daughter of Troy and Valerie Sargent is majoring in Biology at the Newton, Mass. school. She appeared in 19 games as a freshman, finishing with nine goals, 43 ground balls, and 27 forced turnovers.

On March 22, Sargent had a hat trick during her team's 15-3 victory at Becker. She tallied twice in games against Norwich and Wheelock this season.

During her senior year at Brattleboro Union High School, Sargent's lax teammates were Molly Atamaniuk, Ema Baldauf, Morgan Derosia, Alexandra Livanis, Kira McCloskey, Breanna Sheehan, Susanna Strothman, Emma Rueter, Brianna Ogden, Sarah Laporte, Sara Gauthier, Megyn Ayotte, Axis Balsley-Petraska, and Olivia Stent.
