Semester student showcase and open house


BRATTLEBORO — On Saturday, Dec. 8, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Vermont Jazz Center will present musical offerings to complement the festivities of the Cotton Mill's 20th Annual Open House. Student groups will be performing at the VJC's performance space. All are invited to attend free of charge; donations towards the VJC Scholarship Fund will be gratefully accepted. Performances will take place at the Vermont Jazz Center's Concert Hall at the Cotton Mill Hill. Your presence supports local talent performing in a variety of jazz styles. Dessert snacks and coffee and tea will be available by donation.

Schedule of Events: 11 a.m., Jacob Smith Trio; 11:30 a.m., Ukelele Jazz Ensemble — Director: Benjamin Carr; noon, NMH Jazz Ensemble — Director: Ron Smith; 12:40 p.m., Latin Jazz Ensemble — Directors: Eugene Uman and Julian Gerstin; 1:30 p.m., Samba Ensemble — Directors: Julian Gerstin and Ron Kelley; 1:50 p.m., Youth Jazz Ensemble — Directors: Eugene Uman and Mike McKinney; 2:30 p.m., COBRA: A musical improvisational game performed by area professionals — Director: Anna Patton; 3 p.m., Guitar ensemble — Director: Draa Hobbs; 3:30 p.m., VJC Sextet — Director: Rob Freeberg; and 4:15 p.m., Blue Note Ensemble — Director: Claire Arenius.

Admission is $5 suggested donation. All donations benefit the VJC Scholarship Program. At the Vermont Jazz Center, 72 Cotton Mill Hill, providing spectacular concerts and jazz education to the community since 1975.
