Send in your poetry and prose
BRATTLEBORO — Write Action is sponsoring a Poetry & Prose Contest.
Send in your best 1500 words or less for prose, fiction or non-fiction. Up to three pieces of writing constitutes a submission. For poetry, up to four poems constitutes a submission.
The prizes in both categories will be $100 for first place, $50 for second place, and $25 for third. First-place winners will have the opportunity to have a 10-minute spot in the Spotlight Reading at this year's Literary Festival. All entries, online or through the post, must be dated no later than July 10. There is no theme this year.
Email entries as one document (except cover letter with contact information and titles sent as separate document) to Booksfromvermont@yahoo.com with WA Contest in the subject line, or send a hard copy of your submission to: Write Action Contest, P.O. Box 822, Brattleboro, VT 05302. Winners will be announced before the picnic taking place on August 11. First prose or poetry piece is free, after that is $10 for up to two more prose pieces or three more poems. Entries that do not conform to the guidelines will be disqualified.
Prose entries must be no more than 1,500 words each (double-space, 12 point font); poems are limited to one page each (may be single-spaced). No more than one poem to a page, each to be judged separately. The author's name should not appear in any form on the submitted piece(s), only on one cover page per submission, listing name, contact information and titles. Include phone number, email address, and postal address on cover page only, for anonymous judging. You may send more than one submission, same cost for each, as with a single submission.
Eligible writers must live in southern Vermont or the tri-state region of southeastern Vermont. For questions email firstname.lastname@example.org.
