Senior Center offers special programs and trips
BELLOWS FALLS — The Bellows Falls Area Senior Center is planning a number of programs, trips and events in the coming weeks.
There will be an AARP Driver Safety Course on Friday, April 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Be sure to bring a lunch with you.) The cost is $15 for AARP members, and $20 for non-members. Prepay to reserve your spot by mailing a check made out to AARP to: BFASC, 18 Tuttle St, Bellows Falls VT 05101. Or stop by in person.
Cars have changed. So have traffic rules, driving conditions, and the roads we travel every day. Even the most experienced drivers can benefit from brushing up on their driving skills. By taking a driver safety course they will learn the current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and how to operate their vehicles more safely in today's increasingly challenging driving environment.
There will be a day trip to Mohegan Sun on Monday, April 15. The cost is $15 per person. The center van leaves at 8 a.m.. Space is limited
On Tuesday, April 30, there will be a day trip to Brattleboro. Stops include a visit to the Brattleboro Museum, lunch at The Marina and shopping at Grafton Cheese. The center van leaves at 9 a.m. The cost is $15 and includes transportation and museum entry fees.
Ongoing activities at the center include multiple Bone Builders programs (six classes a week); Basic Tai Chi for fall prevention, Thursdays from 12:15 to 1 p.m. Contact instructor Susan Williams at 802-376-5173 for more information. Treadmills and exercise bikes are available for use during center hours. Chair caning meets Mondays at 1 p.m. Wednesday's art class is now visual arts: encompassing scrapbooking, adult coloring and stamping. The Knit and Stitch group meets Mondays and Wednesdays at 9 a.m. They can help you finish a project, repair an item and even take on special projects such as baby blankets and gifts. The group donates "Knitted Knockers" to breast cancer survivors; stop by and ask for Betty for more information. The BFASC Quilters are looking to recruit new members. Nickle Bingo is held every Tuesday starting at 12:30 p.m. with 20 games played.
The Bellows Falls Area Senior Center, 18 Tuttle St., is open to local seniors aged 50 and over. There are no membership fees. For more information, call 802- 463-3907.
