Sharing Housing joins in with Vermont Gives

DUMMERSTON — Sharing Housing Inc. joins nonprofits throughout Vermont to participate in Vermont Gives, the state's second annual day of online giving, to be held on May 17. Initiated by Common Good Vermont, in collaboration with the Vermont Community Foundation and other local sponsors, this event will raise funds and awareness for nonprofit organizations located throughout the state.

Sharing Housing, Inc. works with organizations, housing professionals, the aging network and local officials seeking innovative models to address the dual issues of affordable housing and social isolation. Through education, advocacy, and model development, the challenges of affordable housing and social isolation can be addressed by empowering individuals of all ages to choose, create and sustain this housing option. The organization envisions a world in which sharing housing is a commonly accepted living arrangement and individuals are happy, safe, and at peace with home-mates.

Founder Annamarie Pluhar is an award-winning speaker and trainer and the force behind Sharing Housing, Inc. She is the author of "Sharing Housing, A Guidebook for Finding and Keeping Good Housemates" based on her own personal experiences of living in shared housing for over 20 years of her adult life, as well as extensive research. An expert in instructional design, facilitation, training, and project management, Pluhar has more than 30 years experience in corporations, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations.

Fueled by the power of social media, Vermont Gives unites nonprofits in a call to action to raise critical funds they need to make the valley a better place to live, work, play and serve. It is modeled after the internationally popular Giving Tuesday, but this initiative is more regionalized, encouraging Vermont donors to give local first. All money raised here, stays here. Donations can be made online at Use #VTGives as the hashtag in your social media!

Sharing Housing, Inc. will run a drive for donations via its social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The not-for-profit hopes to raise $5,000 to help fund workshops, webinars and other educational resources for seniors looking for housing.

"As a new not-for-profit organization, it's important for us to spread our message and the resources — education, advocacy and model development — to our audience. We are grateful to be part of the community of giving via Vermont Gives," said Pluhar.

"As nonprofits all across the Green Mountain State face many unknowns with state and federal funding cuts, Vermont Gives is an opportunity to come together to further build a community of philanthropy and giving. We look forward to this opportunity to further our missions together to create a stronger, more vibrant nonprofit sector" said Lauren-Glenn Davitian, Executive Director of Common Good Vermont.
