Shear Designs devotes a day to love

BRATTLEBORO — Shear Designs held its 19th annual Locks of Love cut-a-thon on Saturday, June 29, at the hair salon's Putney Road location. Many came out to cut their locks in the name of Love!

Eight of the 10 employees were there and donated all their time and earnings to the event. Raffle baskets were won and food was eaten. Shear Designs owner Joy Boyd said the day is always a success, whether there are 5 or 25 cuts for the day, because it is about educating people. She said Locks of Love is all nonprofit and supplies high-quality, vacuum-fitted prosthetics to medically disadvantaged kids at no charge.

"A big thank you to everyone who came out and donated and to my staff," Boyd said in a statement. "We sent 82 pony tales and a nice check!"
