Skaters Dumaine, Conkling shine in Michigan

BRATTLEBORO — Suzanne McCaughtry of Keene, N.H. and Stacy Chickering of Chesterfield, N.H., both long standing coaches with the Brattleboro Figure Skating Club, just returned from a week of figure skating competition at SGA 2017 in Michigan.

The team consisted of eight skaters from the Brattleboro-Greenfield, Mass. area.

Those skaters brought home 55 placements, including 18 Gold, 14 Silver, 8 Bronze, 8 Fourth place, 1 Fifth place, 3 6th place and one 7th place.

In overall standings with ISI ( Ice Skating Industry) on the last day, team skaters representing FMC Greenfield wound up fourth in team points based on the medal count out of 30-plus teams participating.

Rose Dumaine of Jacksonville, representing ISI and Brattleboro Figure Skating Club, brought home 1 Gold, 3 Silvers, 1 Bronze and a 7th place finish. Jaden Conkling of Brattleboro, representing ISI and Brattleboro Figure Skating Club, brought home 3 Gold Medals, 2 Bronze Medals and a 4th place ribbon.

Legion Baseball

WHITE RIVER JCT. — Franklin County won the State Legion Tournament, defeating White River 11-7 in 10 innings in the championship game.

Alex Groenewold and Liam Hackett of Bellows Falls were both selected to the All-Star Team. The complete All-Tourney Team is shown below.

BARRE — Brattleboro Country Club's Tracy Sloan is tied for 11th after two days of action in the VSWGA Amateur Championship at Country Club of Barre.

Sloan fired an 87 on Monday and an 83 on Tuesday, leaving her 18 strokes behind leader Holly Reynolds (152) of Copley Country Club. Sloan is tied with Mary Brush of Burlington CC and Miranda Milne of Country Club of Vermont.

Wednesday's final round will begin at 8:30 a.m.
