BRATTLEBORO — Students who are Aware got special recognition for graduating from Brattleboro Area Middle School and Brattleboro Union High School. Aware, formerly known as the Multicultural Awareness group, is a student organization primarily for students of color that was started in 1998. The group focuses on consciousness raising for ourselves and the community through workshops and discussions. The special recognition - on Juneteenth and June 20 - included small, backyard ceremonies for students and their families to celebrate commonalities and offer words of appreciation for each student.
