Townshend man arrested after shots fired
TOWNSHEND -- A drunk and disorderly 54-year-old man was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after members of the Vermont State Police were dispatched to a home along Peggy’s Lane for a report of numerous gun shots and a man threatening violence towards a neighbor.
Police responded to the area at about 4:20 p.m., where Roger E. Decato, of West Townshend, continued to fire rounds of ammunition outside of his home.
After a short period of time, members of the VSP were able to convince him to lay down his weapon and arrest him.
Lt. Paul Faverau said no one was harmed during the incident.
Investigators were at the scene collecting evidence and interviewing neighbors until after 10 p.m.
One neighbor said she’s been hearing loud gunshots coming from the direction of Decato’s home for nearly six weeks.
Despite witnesses claiming there was a high-speed chase prior to the stand-off, Faverau said there was no such incident.
Decato was processed at the Brattleboro Barracks and transported to Southern State Correctional Facility where he was ordered held until sober.
Police also cited Decato for disorderly conduct, reckless endangerment and possession of marijuana.
He is scheduled to appear in Windham County Superior Court Criminal Division on Sept. 4, to answer the charges.
