W. Wardsboro man arrested following alledged shooting

Jeffrey D. McCloskey, 53, was found driving around his property on an all-terrain vehicle and in a truck when police arrived around 10 p.m., according to the Vermont State Police.

Police responded to the scene after a 911 call was placed by a Canadian woman, who said she escaped the residence uninjured while McCloskey was still inside with guns and ammunition.

McCloskey verbally challenged the state troopers at one point, according to a police report.

The VSP Tactical Support Unit and Hostage Negotiation Team responded to the scene as well and established contact with McCloskey, who was eventually taken into custody and brought to the Brattleboro barracks for processing.

On Thursday, Judge David Suntag authorized a search warrant of the residence, where evidence was found that supported the alleged victim's statement.

Later that day, Suntag ordered McCloskey held without bail and found probable cause for firstdegree aggravated domestic assault. McCloskey was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility and is scheduled to be arraigned today in Rutland County court.
