Whalen, Barnett are serious Mudbog contenders


BRATTLEBORO — Josh Whalen of Westminster placed second in the 4/6 Cylinder class during the Aug. 19 Cindy Hall Memorial Mudbog Mudslinger Series event at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, N.H.

Driving a 1994 Toyota pickup, Whalen was clocked in 5.753 seconds. Dave Fraczek prevailed in 5.677 seconds and Pat Hall finished third in 5.920 seconds.

Rockingham's Leo Barnett placed fifth in both the Pros and the Modifieds, Dennis Labby of Hinsdale, N.H. took eighth in the Modifieds, and Mark Mellish of Bellows Falls wound up 10th in the 8-Cylinder event.

Whalen is tied for second in the 4/6 Cylinder standings with 186 points. Barnett is atop the Modified standings and also ranked third in the Pro class. Labby is sitting 11th in the Modified standings, while Mellish is No. 11 on the 8-Cylinder list.

The next competition is scheduled for Sept. 16 at noon. Registration will be held from 9-11 a.m. for Opens, Outlaws, Pros, Mods, 8 Cylinder and 4/6 Cylinder races.
