Windham County high school musicians earn All-State honors

BRATTLEBORO — Twenty Windham County students earned acceptance into Vermont All State Music Festival honors ensembles this spring. Auditions were held in January at Champlain Valley Union High School in Hinesburg for students wishing to be considered for the All State chorus, band, jazz band, and orchestra. Those accepted into these ensembles were to have rehearsed and performed from May 6-9 at North Country Union High School in Newport. The festival was cancelled for the first time in its 93-year history because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fifteen Brattleboro Union High School students were selected for All State ensembles, three from Bellows Falls Union High School, and two from Leland and Gray Union High School. They include:

Ella Aquadro (BUHS, soprano, chorus, grade 11); Jenna Barry-Stoughton (BUHS, alto, chorus, grade 12); Sarah Gordon-Macey (BUHS, alto, chorus, grade 12); Colin Greenleaf (BUHS, tuba, band, grade 12); Anna Guild (BFUHS, tenor sax, band, grade 12); Jonah Johnson (BUHS, bass, chorus, grade 10); Lorilei Jones (BFUHS, alto sax, band, grade 10); Waylon Linn-Adams (BUHS, trombone, band, grade 11); Caroline Mehner (L&GUHS, alto, chorus, grade 12); Zahra Merson (BUHS, alto, chorus, grade 12); Abe Moore Odell (BUHS, trombone, jazz band, grade 11); Virgil Neddenriep (BUHS, tenor, chorus, grade 10); Josephine Paquette (BUHS, drum set, jazz band, grade 12); Lucian Parker-Jennings (L&GUHS, tenor, chorus, grade 11); Jordan Roach (BUHS, alto sax, jazz band, grade 12); Caitlin Sullivan (BUHS, flute/piccolo, orchestra, grade 12); Hope Thibault (BUHS, clarinet, band, grade 10); Zach Thomas (BUHS, tuba, orchestra, grade 11); Grace Thompson (BFUHS, soprano, chorus, grade 12); Amar Vargas (BUHS, bass, chorus, grade 10)

BUHS junior alto saxophonist Joseph Brown was also named as an alternate in the jazz band on the alto and baritone saxophone.
