Your Thanks: Historical Society scholarships
Editor of the Reformer,
Thanks so much for the June 13 Brattleboro Historical Society article detailing recent Brattleboro Union High School scholarships. And a special thanks to Bill Holiday for providing so much of the incentive to make these scholarships an ongoing tradition! Also not to be forgotten are all the folks at BUHS who have worked so hard under unprecedented circumstances to make graduation a reality in this most unusual year. In addition to the behind-the-scenes class of 1970 alumni mentioned in the article, and of course all the generous classmates who donated money, I would like to acknowledge my fellow scholarship committee members Darlene Sprague Leonard, Todd Foote and Karleen Krisher Hayden, as well as Patty Boucher Fallows , Ernie Coughlin, and our "mentor member", Sue Strong. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, our committee of seven, living in five different states, shared word files and messenger chats to determine the recipients of our BUHS Class of 1970 Memorial Scholarships for 2020. It was not an easy decision, for we had a number of outstanding applicants. Our congratulations and best wishes are given to scholarship winners Nicholas Campbell, Sophia Capy, and Tristen Dionne! I hope future classes, when planning their "big" reunions, will consider creating a similar scholarship or scholarships. It's a great way to make an investment in the future, and a great way touch base with our much-younger BUHS counterparts, now the newest graduates of Brattleboro Union High School.
