Your Thanks: School Vacation Nutrition Project
Editor of the Reformer,
The 2018-19 School Vacation Nutrition Project has come to an end for this academic year, our 8th year. During the recent spring vacation we served 357 meals that included breakfast and lunch. Over the year, we served 822 meals. Many kids came back for seconds and all had the chance to take food home at the end of the week.
This Project provides food to kids on vacation during school year holidays and has been serving food-insecure families in Moore Court and Ledgewood Heights. Lorelei Morrissette from the Brattleboro Housing Authority identifies coordinators in the two communities. They volunteer their time creating kid-sensitive menus, preparing meals, and managing the kids as the kids help prepare, set up, and clean up.
The Noon and Sunrise Rotary Clubs have provided financial support for this program but are only able to provide quality due to the generous contributions from The Works, Commonwealth Dairy, and Hannaford's. The staff at each of these three businesses understands the purpose of the contribution and who will benefit. They are enthusiastic supporters.
I especially want to thank Nicole Braun at Commonwealth Dairy and Art Messenger and his deli team at Hannaford's who have been truly wonderful to work with.
On behalf of the kids, thank you all very, very much.
Sunrise Rotary, May 6
