GUILFORD — A Guilford man has died from injuries and burns he received on Labor Day during a fire that destroyed his home.

Vermont State Police Sgt. Steven Otis, an arson investigator, said that Michael Postmus died at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He said he died from burns and injuries he received jumping from the fourth story of the Postmus home, which was built in the shape of a barn silo.

Otis said his investigation into the fire is waiting until he can talk to Postmus' wife Allison, who was also injured during the Sept. 7 fire. She and her husband both jumped from the fourth story of the home. They were first taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and then transferred to the Boston hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The fire, at 219 Hamilton Road in Guilford, broke out that morning, while the Postmus family was hosting a large weekend gathering, with people staying in tents and private vehicles, police said.
